Eligibility & how to apply

Scholarships are awarded once a year. If the four things below describe you, we would like to read your application.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship from the Fund, applicants must:

  • Be accepted or enrolled in a recognised music education program.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest and aptitude in music.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the potential inherent in music education to transform lives and create thriving communities.
  • Provide a written statement of intent to return to — or remain in — a small community in Atlantic Canada to teach music privately upon completion of their studies.
  • Submit letters of recommendation from music instructors or community leaders.
  • Demonstrate that they currently provide private music instruction, or intend to provide such instruction while enrolled in their music education program.
  • Be a resident of Atlantic Canada.

What we ask of recipients

Once a year, for the duration of your award, you write to us — and to everyone reading this site — about your progress in your studies, what you are learning, and your plans for returning to your community. These pieces are published under your own name at Stories.

We are not looking for a report. We are looking for a letter.

How to apply

Applications open each spring. Write to the Board of Trustees with your statement of intent, your letters of recommendation, and proof of enrolment.
