Charter

Adopted by the founding members of the Music Education Scholarship Fund.

Article I: Name

The name of this endowment shall be the Music Education Scholarship Fund (the “Fund”).

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships to students who demonstrate a commitment to studying music at an accredited institution and who intend to return to a small community to teach music privately. This includes, but is not limited to, instruction in piano, voice, or other musical instruments.

Article III: Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship from the Fund, applicants must:

  • Be accepted or enrolled in a recognized music education program.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest and aptitude in music.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the potential inherent in music education to transform lives and create thriving communities.
  • Provide a written statement of intent to return to or remain in a small community in Atlantic Canada to teach music privately upon completion of their studies.
  • Submit letters of recommendation from music instructors or community leaders.
  • Demonstrate that they currently provide private music instruction, or intend to provide such instruction while enrolled in their music education program.
  • Be a resident of Atlantic Canada.

Article IV: Administration

The Fund shall be administered by a Board of Trustees, which shall be responsible for reviewing scholarship applications and selecting recipients; ensuring that the Fund is managed in accordance with its stated purpose; and overseeing the investment and disbursement of funds.

Article V: Funding and Contributions

The Fund shall be supported by donations, bequests, and other contributions. All contributions shall be used exclusively for the purposes outlined in this charter.

Article VI: Amendments

This charter may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the Board of Trustees, provided that such amendments do not alter the fundamental purpose of the Fund.

Article VII: Dissolution

In the event of the dissolution of the Fund, any remaining assets shall be distributed to a nonprofit organization with a similar mission, as determined by the Board of Trustees.
